Wendy Banks co-owns and operates Carolina Management Team with her brother, David Van Zee.
Banks earned the degree of Masters in Business Administration from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and a Bachelor of Science degree in hospitality management from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She spent the first 15 years of her career working the in the hospitality industry for Hyatt Hotels, Walt Disney Attractions and Universal Orlando. That experience has been invaluable in becoming an entrepreneur and creating the start-up industrial painting company she owns today.
David Van Zee co-owns and operates CMT with his sister, Wendy Banks. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in manufacturing engineering from Western Carolina University. As one of approximately 2,400 active certified Coating Inspectors for the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, Van Zee brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to clients the company serves. David also holds the SSPC Concrete Coating Inspector Certification.
Van Zee began his career with Bonset America and later moved to Konica USA in the capacity of systems and process engineer for both manufacturers. With an interest in owning a company of his own, a knack for inter-personal skills, quality orientation and a strong background in problem solving he started CMT with his sister in September 2003.
Tom Johnson has been a project manager with Carolina Management Team since May 2006. He spent his entire career to that point in the water and wastewater industry operating facilities for the cities of Winston-Salem and Thomasville. Johnson was an Operator Responsible Charge for 7 years in both water and wastewater in North Carolina, and formerly managed one of the state’s largest water treatment facilities, the Nelson Water Treatment Plant for the City of Winston-Salem.
As a National Association of Corrosion Engineers Coating Inspector, Johnson brings an understanding of corrosion challenges unique to the industry he has served for his entire career. Coupled with his professional background, he is a tremendous asset to the municipal clients we serve and has helped CMT become the leading painting and concrete repair company serving North Carolina’s water and wastewater industry.
Will Mayfield joined CMT in February 2007 as a veteran in the industrial painting/ lining/ rehabilitation industry. Will started his career with the US Army and he later went into construction and finally coatings. As a project manager that has come up through the ranks from painter to the position he holds today, Will knows what it takes to satisfy clients by delivering outstanding completed projects while managing the crew, the safety elements, the budget and operational considerations. He has been successful in industrial environments including shut-downs for manufacturing firms, manhole rehabilitation, floors, and surface prep and linings on all kinds of infrastructure. I am sure you will enjoy working with Will as much as we do.
CMT was recently honored with a national award at the Painting and Coatings Expo hosted by the Society of Protective Coatings in Dallas, TX for concrete repair and painting of a 5 million gallon clear well at the North Fork Water Treatment Plant. The award was jointly accepted by the three partners on that project including the City of Asheville and Sherwin-Williams
